New logo!

After starting the blog with no logo at all, and going through a fair few revisions, I’m happy to say that we’ve settled on our new logo.  Thanks to the twitter followers who helped in the decision-making process, it’s much appreciated. And here it is: What do you think?

Pioneer Lager, Freedom Brewery, 4.6% ABV

From the Freedom Brewery comes this English take on an American lager. Good thing for me I love an American lager!  Find them on Twitter. What they say: 4.6% abv.  Pioneer is an English take on an American style Pilsner. Its blend of 3 malts produce a full-bodied beer with just a hint of sweetness, […]

Weihenstephan Kristallweissbier 5.4% ABV

Ok, this was a bit like eating those foam bananas from the sweet shop when you were a kid. Now, personally, I hate bananas, and I don’t particularly like anything banana flavoured, but this is fantastic! It is crystal clear and smooth. I’m not much good with German, but I’ll go out on a limb […]

Double Stout, Hook Norton Brewery, 4.8% ABV

I do love a good stout.  And this is no exception!  The Hook Norton Brewery has been around since the mid 1800s.  That’s a pretty long time in anyone’s books.  It is a family owned brewery, which I guess makes it quite unique in this era.  You can find loads of information about them here. […]

Well, I’m sure plenty of non home brewers wonder about this, and if you’re thinking about starting to brew your own beer at home then hopefully I’ll make you see that there are plenty of reasons to home brew. One fairly common reason to brew your own beer at home is the cost-saving element. I’m […]

It was all going so well- home brewing screw-up part one

I had an opportunity to brew at short notice. I hadn’t planned ahead, but fortunately had all the required ingredients. (Except I later realised that I didn’t have any yeast, until I then realised that I actually did, but that was way after the fact). So in between getting on with some work, I set […]

09 Blonde Ale, Otley Brewing Company, 4.8% ABV

A day later than usual, but I drank this beer on Thursday.  I have to admit that I hadn’t read the notes on the label before jumping in- I really needed a beer, but I did take the time to savour it. Otley Brewing Company is a Welsh brewery based in Pontypridd.  The Otley family […]
